George Young

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

George S. Young is a Senior Clinician for the National Counseling Group, Inc. and State Director for the Outpatient Services.  He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Virginia and a trained Juvenile Forensics Evaluator. Mr. Young received his Bachelor of Social Work degree from James Madison University in May of 1978 and his Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in December 1989.

Mr. Young's professional work experience is largely based in adolescent, families and young adult services. He worked 16 years for Fairfax County in two of their residential mental health programs, Fairfax House and Braddock Crossing. Fairfax House was a long-term boys residential program where Mr. Young worked from 1978-1989 as a counselor, and then as Director until 1994. Braddock Crossing was Fairfax County's Co-ed Diagnostic Group Home for Adolescents. Youth were placed for a 90-day diagnostic evaluation in order to best determine their needs. Mr. Young was Director of this facility from 1994-1995. In 1995, Mr. Young left Fairfax County to run the day-to-day programming of Deep Run Lodge, Vanguard Services, Unlimited, adolescent dual-diagnosis program in Goldvein, Virginia. This non-profit program is a large residential program working with youth from around the state who have substance abuse and emotional problems. As Deputy Program Director, Mr. Young was responsible for the supervision of the clinical and residential staffs and the treatment programming for the clients.

Mr. Young received postgraduate training from the Family Therapy Practice Center in Northwest, Washington, D.C. In addition, he is a trained facilitator and instructor in anger management and crisis prevention. He has provided many workshops on dual-diagnosis treatment, anger management, substance abuse and crisis prevention. He has and continues to provide clinical supervision to many individuals pursuing their licensure and substance abuse certifications within the state of Virginia.

While with NCG, Mr. Young has provided clinical services to a wide range of individuals, is involved with many community organizations to address common issues and has been an active participant to the development of NCG. He is committed to providing the best possible care for the clients of NCG and connecting them with the appropriate services to meet their needs. Mr. Young's leadership abilities, extensive experience and commitment to excellence are an invaluable asset to the staff and clients under his care.
