Thomas W. Minnick is the director of the National Counseling Group, Inc., with counseling offices located in Annandale, Herndon, Manassas, City of Richmond, City of Hopewell and Tidewater, Virginia. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in the State of Virginia. Mr. Minnick received an Associate in Science and Education degree from the Northern Virginia Community College in 1986, a Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University in 1988 and a Masters of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1989. He was the recipient of the National All-American Collegiate Scholarship Award and was awarded Most Outstanding Social Work Student in 1988. He was indoctrinated into the Phi Alpha Honor Society in 2001.

Mr. Minnick's professional work experience is quite diverse having worked in a combination of mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities/programs. Employment experience includes working at the following: Washington D.C. Veterans Administration Psychiatric Hospital, an Adult Residential Drug Treatment Center, Comprehensive Day Treatment Program for emotionally disturbed adolescents, Mental Health Consultant to a comprehensive Outpatient Adolescent Substance Abuse Program, Staff Social Worker and Substance Abuse Counselor for a private outpatient psychiatrist and Counselor at a teenage runaway and crisis shelter. Mr. Minnick has had a significant amount of post-graduate training related to the treatment of dually diagnosed clients. Mr. Minnick worked in two managed care companies evaluating the quality of professional care given by other mental health and substance abuse providers in outpatient, residential and inpatient psychiatric facilities throughout the United States.

Mr. Minnick and the National Counseling Group, Inc. have been recognized locally and nationally as experts in the treatment of dually diagnosed adolescents. Specifically, Mr. Minnick and the NCG, Inc. have been professionally recognized in Washingtonian Magazine, The Washington Post Newspaper on several occasions, Government Executive Magazine, and the local Reston Connection newspaper. Mr. Minnick has provided consultation services to other organizations including the CBS evening news. Mr. Minnick was featured on a local Reston cable television show as a drug specialist. Mr. Minnick currently oversees all administrative and clinical functions of NCG, Inc. Additionally, he continues to enjoy working with multiply challenged youth and young adults and maintains a small caseload of clients. Many of his clients are court involved and are frequently referred by attorneys and/or interested family members. Mr. Minnick is diligently working with a variety of members in the community including parents, other treatment providers, school officials, court officials, attorneys, private businesses and members of other government agencies to help accomplish the NVCG vision of being able to provide private mental health and substance abuse services to all people in need. Mr. Minnick has an intense passion for his work and believes strongly in the power for families and youth to change.
